The concept for the Side Loading Vehicle Retriever was developed by former members of an emergency response unit in Israel that rescues people trapped beneath rubble. The former members of this unit developed various systems to lift objects in extreme conditions and under severe time restraints.
In 2002, Old City Partners LLC and Ofakim, purchased the technology and formed Samson Lift Technologies, to commercialize the technology for use in the towing industry.
By 2003, the Side Loading Vehicle Retriever was being used in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem and Johannesburg.
In 2004, Samson licensed the technology for use in the United States to Jerr-Dan Corporation, an Oshkosh Truck Corporation company. Samson retains the rights to be the exclusive distributor for municipal, county, state and federal agencies only.
In 2005, the Side Loading Vehicle Retriever was exhibited for the first time in the United States at the American Towman Exposition in Baltimore, MD.
